Antique 1705 Britannia Sterling Silver Queen Anne Coffeepot Chocolate Pot
Regular price
$24,587.00
Presented is a fantastic Queen Anne silver chocolate pot by Robert Cooper, from 1705. This pot is made from .958 purity silver, a higher standard than sterling .925. The pot is tall, with a fluted hinged/removable lid and a scrolled wooden handle. The lid has a hinged, acorn shaped finial. The spout also has a hinged lid. The body of the pot is wonderfully engraved with a large armorial crest. Both the spout and the handle attach to the body with flame-shaped surrounding decorations. This is an absolutely wonderful piece of antique English silver, in great shape for its age, and would make an exceptional addition to any silver collection.
The pot is hallmarked on the exterior by the handle with the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the Brittania mark for .958 purity silver, the date letter for 1705, and the maker's mark for Robert Cooper.
This piece is in great overall condition. There is an old solder repair where the wooden handle meets silver at both the top and the bottom of the handle, as shown in the photos. Otherwise there are no problems, no splits, no breaks, no cracks, and no monogram removals. The pot stands approximately 9 3/4 inches tall.
The pot weighs 777 grams or 27.4 ounces.
A kind ebay member emailed us with the following information regarding this pot: "A superb chocolate pot with the quartered arms of GROVE and LAMBERT on the husband’s side (viewer’s left) and HELE and HOOKE (baronets) on the wife’s side. This may have been owned by Thomas Grove (1664-1738) of Ferne, Wiltshire (later baronets). He married Elizabeth Hooke in 1686. Both baronetcies seem to be dormant."
