Presented is a fine old mourning pin. This piece is beautifully executed in matte black enamel on 14k yellow gold and white seed pearls. The pin has a gold frame and black leaves stretching across the frame. The pearls are between the leaves. The pin closes securely with a traditional clasp. This piece is American and was made in the first quarter of 1900s.
The pin is hallmarked on the clasp with 14k. The 14 and the K are on the upper and lower parts of the letter H. This is the mark of AJ Hedges and Co. of Newark, New Jersey. There were a fine quality company that made many specialty black enamel mourning pins in 1919 after the fever epidemic and World War I, few have survived especially in such pristine condition. The pin is in excellent condition and there are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, no repairs, no loss of nacre, no loss of enamel, and no problems of any kind.The pin is 2 1/2 inches long. The pin weighs 5.3 grams.
