Presented is a super quality antique, sterling silver castor, muffineer or sugar shaker made by the Mappin Brothers of London, England in 1899. This large, solid sterling piece is done in an early 17th century, Georgian style of Paul De Lamerie. The bottom portion of the body has applied, floral decorations and it has never been monogrammed. The lid has a ruffled rim and has panels of intricately pierced and engraved designs. This piece is quite heavy and substantial.
The body and lid bear the leopard's head for the city of London, the lion passant for sterling silver, a date letter d for the year 1899 and a maker's mark for the Mappin Brothers.
This piece is in great overall condition, especially for its age. There are two dents to the lid, but this is not very noticeable because of the decorations. There are two very small dings to the body.
Height: 8 3/4 inches.
Weight: 303 grams or 10.7 ounces.
