Presented is a fine set of 8 sterling silver teaspoons and 1 master butter knife made by Towle Silversmiths. The set is done in the Old Colonial pattern also known as Colonial which was first produced in 1895. Two spoons are monogrammed with a B in Gothic script on the front of the handles and ’04 on the backs of the handles, one spoon is engraved with ’08 on the front of the handle and a W in Gothic script on the back of the handles, and the master butter knife is engraved Clara on the reverse. The other five spoons have never been monogrammed or engraved.
Each piece is marked on the reverse with 925-1000, a maker’s mark for Towle, Sterling and Pat. 1895.
The condition is excellent. The set has some surface wear commensurate with age and light use but this is minor. The spoons could use a little polishing in the bowls. There are no dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
The teaspoons are 5 5/8 inches long.
The master butter knife is 7 1/2 inches long.
The total weight is 254.6 grams or 8.9 ounces.
