Regular price
$1,368.00
Presented is a fine quality set of 7, American sterling silver forks made during the mid 19th century. These pieces are in the Grecian pattern. This pattern is mostly associated with the Whiting Manufacturing Company. However the pattern was first made by Henry Hebbard of New York in 1862. Four of these forks were retailed by Tiffany and Co. of New York. Three of the forks were not retailed by Tiffany and are only stamped by Whiting. All 12 bear a patent date of 1862.
Each handle has a ram’s head at the tip, whose horns wrap around to continue the design on the back. There is a little devil’s head below an acorn design in the center of each handle. The 4 Tiffany forks have a monogram of the letters A, E and L intertwined and the 3 Whiting forks have a monogram of the letters A, E and K intertwined. The back of the tines have the same acorn embellishment as seen on the front of the handle.
The back of each fork is marked sterling and patent 1862. 4 are marked Tiffany & Co and 3 are marked with the Whiting hallmark. The 4 Tiffany marked forks are also stamped H.H. for Henry Hebbard.
This set is in excellent overall condition. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits, no monogram removals and no repairs.
Each fork measures 7 5/8 inches long and the combined weight of the set is 512 grams or 18 ounces.
