Presented is a fine set of 7 Portuguese silver spoons. The set consists of six coffee, tea or dessert spoons, and a larger scoop for serving sugar, jelly, etc. Two of the spoons date to 1853-1862, while the remaining spoons date to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The two older spoons are slightly smaller and have a simpler design on the handle, which matches the design on the handle of the serving spoon. The remaining four spoons have a slightly different design and are slightly longer. The serving spoon has a monogram of AF in elegant script. The four slightly longer spoons have a monogram of LF in similar script. The remaining two spoons have no monograms.

The two smaller spoons have older Portuguese hallmarks, a P crowned for the city of Oporto guaranteeing a silver purity of 958, used between 1853-1862, as well as a maker's mark of APC. Between these two marks on each of the two spoons is the typical mark left by the Portuguese assay, a long zigzag. The remaining five spoons each have a Portuguese hallmark of a boar's head in an octagonal punch above the Roman numeral II, guaranteeing 833 silver purity, used between 1886-1938. These five spoons also have a stamp in the shape of an urn or pitcher, which we do not recognize.

The spoons are in great condition. The designs are nice and crisp. There are no dents, no splits, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

The serving spoon is about 5 5/8 inches long. The two spoons with the same handle design as the serving spoon are about 4 7/8 inches long. The remaining four spoons are about 5 1/8 inches long.

The total weight is 162.6 grams or 5.7 regular ounces.
