Presented is a wonderful 65 piece sterling silver flatware set by Dominick & Haff. This set is made in the classic Rattail Antique pattern, which began production in 1890. This pattern features a very iconic upward turn and central ridge to the ends of the handles, with a rattail design on the backs of the bowls of the spoons and pistol-grip form handles to the knives. This flatware design dates back to the 1700s, and modern iterations of it are made by most of the well known silver companies like Reed & Barton, Kirk Stieff, etc, under names like Queen Anne, 18th Century, or simply Rattail. This set provides full service for 8, with five piece place settings, as well as extra pieces in most of the types and some serving pieces. The knives have sterling handles with stainless blades in the 'new French' shape.
We are including with the set a brand new fitted storage chest, as seen in the photos. The chest is wood in a rich dark walnut finish, with a velvet lined interior.
Each non-knife piece is stamped with the Dominick & Haff maker's mark as well as sterling. The knives are marked Reed & Barton although they are made in an identical pattern, as well as 'sterling handle' and Mirrorstele, Reed & Barton's proprietary stainless steel.
This set is in great condition. The details of the pattern are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The total weight for the set, not including the knives due to their stainless steel blades, is 2486 grams or 87.7 regular ounces. -jm
