Presented is a great set of 4 Gorham sterling silver forks. These forks are made in the old version of the Baronial pattern, which began production in 1898. This is an ornate pattern featuring a scroll and shell motif, with a classical lion mask on the end of the handle whose open mouth holds a cartouche. Each fork is monogrammed with 'Aztec' which is the name of the American steam yacht whose service these pieces were a part of. The Aztec was originally built in 1902 as a private yacht for A. C. Burnage, later leased to the US Navy in 1917 for use during World War I. After the war, the Aztec was restored to a civilian yacht before being purchased for the Royal Canadian Navy in 1931. There she was assigned to anti-submarine patrols and convoy escorts during WWII. These forks have hollow handles and three-tined bodies, possibly they are seafood or fish forks, but of course they can be used for a variety of purposes. We received a sizable amount of Old Baronial silver from the Aztec's service, including more forks and many other utensils. Please contact us if you wish to purchase additional pieces or inquire about availability.
This set is in great condition. The details of the pattern are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

Each fork is about 6 5/8 inches long.
The total weight for the set is 125 grams or 4.4 regular ounces. -jm
