Presented is a lovely pair of porcelain saucers made by Spode of England. The pattern is called “Spode’s Gobelin” and is painted with brilliant blues, reds, yellows and greens over a transfer decoration. The centers of the saucers have a hand painted countryside scene with a castle in the background and a girl sitting in the foreground. The borders of the saucers are painted with brightly colored flowers, birds, and scrolls. One saucer has a wavy edge rim, and the other has a smooth edge. There is also a slight difference in color between the two. Let the photos be your guide.
The saucers are marked on the underside with Spode, Copeland’s China, England in green and Spode’s Gobelin in pink. One saucer is also marked in pink with U.S. Patent, Jan. 8, 1929 and impressed with O 30. The other saucer is impressed with M 28.
One of the saucers has a small chip on the foot rim on the underside as you can see in the last photo. This is very minor. Otherwise, the condition is excellent. There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, no breaks, no splits, and no repairs.
The saucers measure 5 3/4 inches in diameter.
Weight: 10.9 oz (307.9 grams)
