Presented is an antique pair of German 800 purity silver candelabra candlestick holders made during the very early 1900s. We believe the pieces were made by Theodor Julius Gunther of Berlin, and they were definitely made right around the 1906 date on each monogram. The candelabras are convertible, the tops (which hold 4 candlesticks) can be removed, so the piece becomes a single column style candlestick holder. This set is ornately designed with fabulous acanthus leaf and scroll accents. The base of each piece has an inscription that reads: Zur Silbernen huckzeit gewidmet von den Geschwistern 1881 10 Aug. 1906. The candlesticks are NOT weighted.
Each piece bears the German crescent moon and crown mark, 800 for the silver purity and a maker's mark that we believe is for Theodor Julius Gunther of Berlin.
This old pair is in great overall condition, especially considering age. There is an arm on each candelabra that has a very slight bend, but this is hardly noticeable. We have shown this flaw in the last photograph.
Total weight of the pair: 1,408 grams or 3.1 pounds.
Each candelabra measures 16 inches high and is about 12 inches across.
