1927 English Sterling Silver Gilt Cut Frosted Glass Small Dresser Vanity Jar 2/3
Regular price
$195.00
Presented is a beautiful English sterling silver and cut glass small dresser jar, part of a larger dressing set of which we have many pieces for sale. The silver lid and collar of this jar is by Finnigans Ltd and dates to 1927, while the glass is unsigned but of exceptional quality, likely a high end English maker like Thomas Webb or Steven & Williams. The lid features very ornate decoration in the form of machine turned radiant designs, fruit, leaf, and flower borders, and ropetwist edging. The glass is cut and frosted with intricate floral swags, egg-and-dart style leaves and flowers. The silver has a rich gold wash, which gives the jars a very high end, luxurious look that would be a grand addition to any vanity or dressing room's décor. This is a small jar than a typical powder jar size, likely for ointments or face creams or the like, though of course you can use it for whatever suits you best.
This jar is in pristine condition, no chips, cracks, breaks, or repairs to the glass.
The lid is in excellent condition, with sharp crisp detailing and only the most minor wear to the gold wash.
The interior of the lid has a cork lining but beneath that is the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for the city of London, the date letter m for 1927, and the maker's mark for Finnigans Ltd. The silver rim is stamped with the lion passant for sterling silver and the leopard's head for the city of London.
We received the entire dresser set as part of a lot from the same estate, and all the pieces match and are no doubt by the same maker.
The jar is about 1 3/4 inches tall and measures about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
The silver lid alone weighs 26.6 grams. -jm
