Presented is a terrific, 4-piece English sterling silver tea set made by the Crichton Brothers of London in 1918. This set is done in a classical Medallion pattern. Each piece is raised on a pedestal base and has a decorative band of design along its top rim. Both sides of each piece have a separately cast and applied medallion of a robed woman done in a classical Greek/ Roman style. The underside of each piece has a monogram that reads: A. Elliott, Manchester NH. This monogram can only be read if the pieces are turned upside down.
This set includes:
1 Teapot: 9 1/2 inches from handle to spout and 8 1/2 inches tall.
1 Creamer: 3 7/8 inches from handle to spout and 6 3/4 inches tall.
1 Covered Sugar Bowl: 6 7/8 inches from handle to handle and 6 1/4 inches tall.
1 Waste Bowl: 4 1/2 inches in diameter and 3 7/8 inches tall.
Each piece is marked with the leopard’s head for London, the lion passant for sterling silver, a date letter c for the year 1918 and a maker’s mark for the Crichton Brothers.
The overall condition of this set is excellent. There has been a minor solder reinforcement to the hinge on the lid of the teapot but this is only noticeable upon very close inspection. You would never notice it. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits, no monogram removals and no other repairs.
The combined weight of the set is 1,920.5 grams or 67.7 ounces.
