Presented is a wonderful Dutch silver salad serving set, dated 1916. The set is features a detailed genre scene chased in the bowl of the spoon and the body of the fork above the tines. The spoon shows two men at a table smoking pipes, while the fork has a man and woman at a table with a musician behind them. The terminal of each piece is done in the figure of a large sailing ship, supported by cherubs and dolphins. The shafts of the handles are done in an elegant twist form. All the decoration is quite detailed and well done, with fine texturing and engraving. Each piece has the name Evelyn on the back of the terminal.
This set is in great condition. The details of the designs are nice and crisp. There are no breaks, no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
Each piece is stamped with the Dutch lion passant for a minimum silver purity of 833, with the key-shaped export mark stamped over it, as well as Holland and a maker's mark or other mark of an R, a shield, and a crown, on the front of the bowl/body. There is also a date letter of a Gothic G for 1916 on the stem of each piece.
Both pieces are about 9 3/8 inches long.
The set weighs 166 grams or 5.9 regular ounces.
