1905 Neat Dutch 835 Silver Round Box w King Queen Wedding Commemoration on Lid
Regular price
$230.00
Presented is a charming antique Dutch 835 silver box, dated 1905. The box features a commemorative wedding scene of two undoubtedly royal figures on the lid, facing one another beneath a fruit tree. The decoration is done in nicely detailed relief, and someone with a better knowledge of history than I have can probably identify this celebrated royal couple. The sides of the box are beautifully hand chased and engraved with lush floral designs and classical C scrolls. Overall the box is quite well made and has a nice feeling of weight and quality to it.
This piece is in great overall condition. There are a few dings to the underside, but these can't be seen without turning the piece over. One very small and shallow dent to the side of the bottom, hard to notice due to the decoration. There are no splits, no other dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is stamped with Dutch hallmarks: The duty stamp of Minerva's head with the letter M for the city of Schoonhoven (on the lid), the lion passant above the Roman numeral II for 835 purity silver overstruck with a keyshaped export mark, and a maker's mark (on the underside), and a date letter V on the lip/rim visible when the lid is open, for 1905.
This piece measures about 2 1/4 inches in diameter and stands about 1 1/2 inches tall.
This box weighs 83 grams or 2.9 regular ounces. -jm
