Presented is a wonderful cut glass bowl with sterling silver stand, from Gorham's Athenic product line. This fabulous Art Nouveau piece is dated to 1901. The oval bowl is made in the shape of a stylized flower, and is covered in scroll designs and swags. The silver base is quatrefoil in design and raised on four feet. This is a very heavy and well-made piece, and would be an asset to any home or collection.
This piece is in great overall condition. The glass has scratches, abrasions and surface wear commensurate with age and use, but has no chips, no cracks, and rings well when struck. The silver stand is in excellent condition, with no breaks, no cracks, and no repairs.
The silver stand is hallmarked with the 'lion anchor G' for Gorham, sterling, an hourglass date mark for 1901, 'Athenic', a product number D831, and the retail mark for Spaulding & Co.
The bowl is approximately 14 3/4 x 9 1/2 inches, and stands 4 1/2 inches tall.
The silver base weighs 951 grams. The glass bowl itself weighs approximately 2600 grams.
