Presented is a beautiful and timeless porcelain coffee pot made by Volkstedt in Thuringia Germany around 1770. It has a multi-tiered ribbed body hand painted with the famous underglaze blue straw flower design so characteristic of the Thuringia area. This is the first Thuringia pot we've ever seen that has a heart shaped opening to the spout. How endearing!
It is marked underneath with the early under glaze blue straight-stemmed, three-lobed blossom attributed to the Volkstedt factory in Thuringia, which originated in 1760.
The coffee pot is in superb condition and is wonderfully shiny and clean inside and out. There is an irregularity on the top rim's exterior under glaze, indicating that it's original to its production. There are no chips, cracks or crazing anywhere on the pot. The lovely dome lid does have a chip on an edge on the inside, which will not be visible when you use or display this distinctive antique piece.
Measurements: The pot is 9 inches tall without the lid. Total height is 11 inches.
The circumference of its broad belly is 17 1/8 inches (about 5 1/2 inches diameter).
The width of the pitcher is about 7 inches counting the handle and spout.
Capacity: 52 ounces
Weight: 826.8 grams (1 lb and 13 oz) tm
