1895 CHARMING AMERICAN STERLING SILVER GRAPE PATTERN GRAPEVINE TEA STRAINER
Regular price
$285.00
Presented is a charming American sterling silver tea strainer. The strainer was made by Dominick & Haff in their Grape pattern, which was patented in 1895. This pattern features a beautiful grape motif, with detailed clusters of grapes decorating the handle. The grape theme is continued around the rim of the strainer itself, with prominent grape clusters, vines, and leaves. The strainer is well constructed from thick, heavy gauge silver, with a nice feeling of weight in the hand.
This piece is in great overall condition. The handle and the strainer may or may not be original to one another, this may be a marriage. The handle is very well attached to the strainer and matches admirably in pattern, so if this is a marriage, it's a harmonious one. There is a monogram removal to the front of the handle, which was done so well it's very hard to notice without close inspection. There are no breaks, no monograms, and no repairs.
The back of the handle is stamped with the maker's mark for Dominick & Haff as well as sterling and a patent date of 1895. The strainer itself is stamped Howard & Co, a retailer.
The strainer is about 9 inches long.
This piece weighs 100.2 grams or 3.5 regular ounces. -jm
