The bowl of the spoon features a richly detailed and well executed city scene of Pompeii, complete with Mount Vesuvius in the background, done in a parcel gilt finish which makes the details really stand out despite the small size. The spoon's handle is done in a classical column form, ending in an Ionic capital topped with a volute amphora or urn, depicting a seated woman in silhouette.
