Presented is a fancy 1890s silver souvenir spoon for the city of Pompeii, in Italy. The bowl of the spoon features a richly detailed and well executed city scene of Pompeii, complete with Mount Vesuvius in the background, done in a parcel gilt finish which makes the details really stand out despite the small size. The spoon's handle is done in a classical column form, ending in an Ionic capital topped with a volute amphora or urn, depicting a seated woman in silhouette.
The reverse is marked for 800 purity silver.
This piece is in excellent overall condition. The details are crisp and
well-defined. There are no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no
repairs.
