Presented is a lovely set of 11 mother of pearl knives with sterling silver bands. The knives were made in the 1880s. Each knife has a fine mother of pearl handle with an ornate sterling silver collar. The blades are silver plated over carbon steel. There are 5 knives with an ornate floral and scroll pattern to the silver collar and J. Russell & CO marked on the blades.
There are 2 knives with a similar floral design with an open cartouche to the silver collar and Lamson & Goodnow MFG. Co. on the blades.
There are 4 knives with a simpler floral pattern to the silver collar and Landers, Frary & Clark on the blades. The mother-of-pearl is very beautiful. It has a nice iridescent finish.
The 5 J. Russell & Co. knives and the 4 Landers, Frary & Clark knives are stamped on the silver collars with STERLING for sterling silver.
The 2 Lamson & Goodnow knives are not marked.
The condition is excellent. The mother of pearl is in great shape. The blades are all in great shape. There are no breaks, no splits, no cracks, no dents and no repairs.
The J. Russell & Co knives measure approximately 8 inches long. The Lamson & Goodnow knives measure approximately 7 3/4 inches long. The Landers, Frary & Clark knives measure about 7 5/8 inches long.
