Presented is a fine quality antique English silverplate serving dome or cloche. This piece dates to 1870 and was made by Elkington & Co. The dome is beautifully hand engraved around the exterior with an intricate band of classical scrolled acanthus leaf decoration, nicely detailed and well done. The bottom rim has a bold gadroon design in a large, noticeable style, matching the handle and where the handle meets the dome. One side has a very finely engraved crest of an armored arm holding a dagger upraised. The handle is easy to unscrew from the lid, and will be shipped disassembled to save a little space. This is quite a large size dome, and will accommodate a pretty impressive roast entree, likely even a Thanksgiving turkey.

This piece is in great overall condition. There are some minor surface abrasions here and there to the exterior, but no wear through the silver plating. The interior has some pitting/wear to the silver plating, as you can see in the fourth photograph. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

This piece is stamped on the upper side of the rim with the maker's mark for Elkington & Co and a date letter of H for 1870, with the name Elkington spelled out on the side of the rim as well.

The dome measures about 15 3/4 x 12 3/4 x 9 1/2 inches, LxWxH, exterior dimensions (including the handle).
The interior dimensions are about 15 1/2 x 12 1/4 inches.
This dome weighs 4 pounds 6 ounces, or 1.98 kilograms. -jm
