Presented is a lovely pair of Victorian English sterling silver grape shears. These shears date to 1857 and were made by Francis Higgins, one of the best makers in the world at the time. The scissors are done in a classical King or Kings style pattern, with bold shell and foliate designs on the handles. The handles and blades are all sterling silver, with only the tiny center screw possibly being steel.
The scissors are in great condition. They open and shut well. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The shears are hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for the city of London, the date letter b for 1857, Queen Victoria's head duty mark, and the maker's mark for Francis Higgins.
The shears are about 7 1/2 inches long. The total weight is 111 grams or 3.9 regular ounces. -jm
