Presented is a fine set of 6 English Victorian sterling silver coffee spoons or 5 o'clock spoons. These spoons date to 1842 and were made by Samuel Hayne & Dudley Cater. The spoons are done in a lovely traditional form, with a distinctive downward turn to the end of the handle and a pronounced pip on the back. Each spoon is monogrammed AEW on the handle in elegant script. Each spoon has a marriage style monogram of I+C on the back of the handle.
The spoons are in great condition. There are no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs. Each spoon is hallmarked on the back of the handle with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for the city of London, the date letter G for 1842, Queen Victoria's head duty mark, and the maker's mark for Samuel Hayne & Dudley Cater.
Each spoon is about 5 1/4 inches long.
