Presented is a fine French silver tastevin or wine taster. This piece dates to 1819-1838. The tastevin is done in a lovely classical form, decorated with clusters of grapes and grape leaves all around the sides. Engraved on the exterior rim is the name G. Poujon.

This piece is stamped with the French second standard mark of Michelangelo's head in profile with the number 2, on the side of the rim, for 800 purity silver. The underside is stamped with a maker's mark we can't identify, another second standard mark for 800 silver. There is a French small article hallmark on the handle.

The tastevin measures about 4 1/4 inches from handle to side and is about 1 3/8 inches tall at the highest point of the handle.

This piece weighs 86 grams or 3.0 regular ounces. -jm
