Presented is a wonderful quality Georgian English sterling silver box. This piece dates to 1815. The exterior and interior of the box are done in a bright mirror finish. The silver of the box is quite thick and sturdy, and the box has a good weight and heft to it, it's a very well made piece. The lid of the box has a great crest of a quartered shield between two eagles, an eagle's head erased with an arrow in its neck above, and a banner below reading 'Frappe Fort'. This is a French motto translating to 'hits hard.'
This piece is in great condition. The hinge is in great working order. There are no splits, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is hallmarked on the side with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter U for 1815, the King George III head duty mark, and the maker's mark for Joseph Craddock & William Ker Reid. This set of hallmarks is repeated much more clearly on the interior of the box's lid.
This box has approximate dimensions of 6 x 6 x 2 7/8 inches (LxWxH). The box weighs 820 grams or 28.7 regular ounces.
