1782 English Georgian Sterling Silver Single Handle Tea or Punch Strainer
Regular price
$498.00
Presented is a wonderful English Georgian sterling silver punch or tea strainer. This piece dates to 1782 and was made in London. The strainer is done in a handsome classical form, with an ornate scroll and shell design handle. The rim of the strainer is done in an applied gadrooned design.
This piece is in great overall condition. There is an old solder repair to where the handle joins the body, but the repair itself is likely antique. Otherwise, there are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no cracks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no other repairs.
This piece is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter g for 1782, and a maker's mark of WS, possibly for William Skeen.
The strainer measures about 5 1/2 inches from the handle to the opposite side.
This piece weighs 68 grams. -jm
