1777 English Georgian Sterling Silver Beaded Edge Serving Spoon Thomas Chawner
Regular price
$134.00
Presented is a fine English Georgian sterling silver spoon. This spoon was made by Thomas Chawner and is dated 1777. The spoon is the size we would generally use as a table or serving spoon today, but would likely have been considered a large soup spoon in its time. The handle is nicely decorated with a beaded edge design.
This piece is in excellent condition, particularly for the age. The design is nice and crisp. There has possibly been a monogram removal to the terminal of the handle, but if so it was professionally done and is hard to detect even with close inspection.
There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, and no repairs.
This piece is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter b for 1777, and the maker's mark for Thomas Chawner.
This spoon measures about 8 1/8 inches long. The spoon weighs 57 grams, or 2.0 regular ounces. -jm
