Presented is a lovely small sterling silver English caster from 1738. This piece displays a classic Queen Anne form. There is a crest on one side above the threaded mid-section. This crest is very worn and therefore not identifiable.

The caster is marked with full English Hallmarks: the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for London, and the date letter C representing 1738. There is also a maker's mark for Samuel Wood, although only part of the SW initials are visible. The lip of the lid is also marked with the lion passant and a partial maker's mark.

This piece is in good overall condition, especially considering age. As mentioned, the crest is very worn. There is a piece of silver that has been added to the interior of the lid and is blocking most of the holes. Someone wanted to use this caster for salt, not powdered sugar, so the flow would be less. This can be seen well in the photo with the ruler.

There is a small vertical split through the crest. Let the photos be your guide.
