1726 Great English Georgian Sterling Silver Single Handle Punch / Tea Strainer
Regular price
$618.00
Presented is a wonderful English Georgian sterling silver punch or tea strainer. This piece dates to 1726 and was made in Exeter. The strainer is done in a handsome classical form, with an ornate scroll and shell design handle. The rim of the strainer is done in an applied gadrooned design.
This piece is in great condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no cracks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned, the city mark for Exeter, the date letter b for 1726, and a maker's mark which is unfortunately too worn to read. The towers mark is for the city of Exeter, while the leopard's head crowned, though usually seen as a city mark for London, was also used on provincial English silver.
The strainer measures about 5 5/8 inches from the handle to the opposite side.
This piece weighs 75 grams. -jm
