1721 Antique English Britannia 958 Sterling Silver Rattail Marrow Scoop Spoon
Regular price
$648.00
Presented is a wonderful English Georgian silver marrow scoop spoon. The scoop is made from Britannia silver, which has a purity of 958. It is worth noting that this is a higher purity standard than sterling, which is 925. This piece dates to 1721. The scoop is double ended, with a regular spoon end and a narrow scoop end for scooping marrow out of bones. Both the spoon end and the scoop end face the same way. The back of the spoon has a distinctive rat tail design. The spoon has a monogram of AC. This is a sturdy, well made piece of English silver, and would make an exceptional addition to any silver collection.
This piece is in great overall condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is hallmarked on the underside with the lion's head erased for the city of London, the date letter F for 1721, and a maker's mark we unfortunately cannot read. The very bottom of the Britannia mark is visible, for 958 purity silver.
The marrow spoon is about 7 7/8 inches long.
The marrow spoon weighs 32.8 grams or 1.2 regular ounces.
