Presented is a fabulous set of 6 English Queen Anne silver spoons. These spoons date to 1705 and were made by Thomas Sadler. The spoons are made from Britannia silver, which is 958 purity. It's worth mentioning that this is a higher purity than sterling, which is 925. The spoons are done in a classical Hanoverian pattern, with a distinctive upward turn to the end of the handle and a rat tail on the back of the spoon. The spoons are quite large and heavy, made from thick silver throughout, not at all prone to bending. Each of the handles is monogrammed with a J in elegant script.

Each piece is hallmarked on the back of the handle with the Britannia mark for 958 purity silver, the lion's head erased for the city of London, the date letter for 1705, and the maker's mark for Thomas Sadler. Some of the hallmarks are visibly worn, but we have provided a photo showing all the hallmarks as well as a closeup of the most clearly stamped.

The spoons are in great overall condition. There is some surface wear throughout, but nothing excessive or noticeable. One of the spoons has had a solder repair to the stem, about where the date letter is, but this repair is old and very well done, and it is nearly impossible to see. In fact, we are not even sure that this is a repair, it certainly appears to be an old scarf joint, which was certainly the original construction. Whatever the case, even if a repair, it is in our opinion a minor issue. There are no splits, no dents, no cracks, and no monogram removals.

Each spoon is about 8 inches long.

The total weight for the set of spoons is 381 grams or 13.4 regular ounces.
