Presented is a handsome set of 12 German silver knives. The knives are done in an elegant Art Nouveau pattern with flowers at the tip surrounded by sinuous scrolls. The ends of the handles are monogrammed with an L. The knives have stainless steel blades. These knives were undoubtedly made in the first quarter of the 1900s
Seven of the knives are stamped 800 on the handles for the silver purity.
The other five knives are marked with the 800, crescent moon and crown for German 800 purity silver and a maker’s mark. All twelve blades are marked J. A. Henckels Zwillingswerk, one of the world’s foremost blade makers. Originally these knives would have had carbon steel silverplated blades. The blades were probably replaced in the late 1930s or after with stainless steel blades.
The condition is excellent. The handles have some surface wear commensurate with age and light use, and there are a few little dents and dings here and there, but this is minor. There are no major dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
