11 English Mintons 1878 Gilt Porcelain Butterfly and Fern Plates

Presented is a lovely set of 11 English porcelain plates made by Mintons for retail by John Mortlock of London during the late 19th or early 20th century. Each plate is beautifully decorated with a gilt butterfly and plants. The gilding is thick and slightly raised off the surface of the plate. This is a wonderful quality set.
The underside of each plate bears the Minton’s mark used between 1873 and 1912. There is a series of three impressed marks on the underside of each plate, one of which (the circle within the triangle) is a date mark for the year 1878.There is also a retailer’s mark for John Mortlock of London.
This set is in fabulous overall condition. One of the plates has some crazing and some discoloration as well as a hairline crack. All 10 of the other plates are in wonderful condition and have no cracks, no chips, no crazing and no repairs.
Each plate measures 9 1/4 inches in diameter. Weight: 10 lbs 6.1 oz (4710 grams)
