Presented is a wonderful 10 karat gold and shell cameo. This piece dates to the 1920s-1930s. The cameo depicts a pretty young woman with her hair done up, very well carved and detailed. The gold setting is done in a wonderful filigree openwork style. The cameo has both a pin with safety clasp and a retractable bail, so it can be worn as either a brooch or a pendant. A kind ebayer suggests that this woman may be Psyche, due to the butterfly on her shoulder and the fact that Psyche was often portrayed with butterfly wings.
This piece is in excellent condition. The details of the cameo are nice and crisp. The clasp and safety function well. There are no breaks and no repairs.
