Presented is a superb American Victorian 14K gold pin topped with a hardstone
cameo. The cameo is beautifully carved in high relief and with remarkable
detail. The cameo is securely prong set in a heavy weight 14K gold mounting
with elegant leaves, scrolls, and beaded trim around the edges. The pin was
made in the mid to late 1800s, almost certainly 1860 to 1880. I believe the
hardstone cameo was carved in Italy while the gold mounting was made in the
United States.
This pin is not marked, as might be expected on a piece of this age. We have
tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 14K gold.
The condition is excellent. There are no chips, no cracks, no splits, no
breaks, and no repairs.
The pin measures 7/8 inch by 2 1/2 inches.
The weight is 12.3 grams.
