Stunning c1900 Art Nouveau European Bronze Nude Woman Reclining Planter

Presented is a wonderful quality antique bronze planter, dating to circa 1895-1915. This piece is not signed, unfortunately, which is surprising considering the quality. It is certainly of continental European origin, possibly Czech. The bronze is done in a beautiful Art Nouveau style typical of the time to which it dates, though it has some Art Deco elements as well. The front features a reclining nude woman with her hair done up and one arm braced back on the rim of the planter behind her. The base of the piece has a stylized tree design around the sides, while the upper portion has a more geometric arrangement of interlocked rings. The quality of the casting is exceptional, and the figure of the woman is quite detailed and well done, with a very dynamic and lively look. The planter has a removable interior liner to protect the metal, with two ring form handles so it can be easily lifted out.

This piece is in excellent condition. The patina is in good shape. The interior liner is fairly clean and has only some minor signs of use. Minor shelf wear to the underside. No breaks and no repairs.

The piece measures about 8 by 6 ½ by 4 ½ inches, LxWxH.

This planter weighs 8 pounds 10 ounces, or 3.9 kilograms. -jm
