Presented is an eye-catching 18 karat yellow gold and emerald pin or brooch in the shape of a seagull. This is an American piece, dating to around the second half of the 1900s. The pin is made in the form of a seagull or perhaps an albatross with its wings fully outstretched, with each feather of the wings beautifully detailed and textured. The bird has a single little round cut emerald for an eye. The pin has a rollover style safety clasp as well as two loops at the back where it could be worn as a pendant. We include a photo showing it on a chain, but that is just an example, there are undoubtedly much more suitable chains out there to pair it with.
This piece is in excellent condition. The details of the feathers are super crisp. The clasp functions well and closes securely. No breaks and no repairs.
This piece is stamped and guaranteed 18 karat gold, as well as a maker's mark that looks like AD or maybe PD conjoined, which we unfortunately do not recognize. We have tested this piece with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 18 karat gold.
The pin measures about 3 ½ inches from wingtip to wingtip.
The pin weighs 17.4 grams.
