Regular price
$936.00
Presented is a nice old Scottish agate and citrine brooch in 14 karat gold. This piece dates to around the 1850s-1870s. The pin is done in the shape of an 'X' with each of the four limbs being a bar of polished agate in red, white or brown. Set at the junction of the X is a citrine in a diamond shaped cut, with a gold seashell to either side. The edges of the pin are decorated with gold beading. The pin has an old 'C' style clasp with a sliding clear rubber safety stop which is obviously a later addition. It's worth noting that Scottish agate brooches are typically found in silver, making this an even more interesting and distinctive piece.
The pin is in good overall condition. A couple of the gold beads along the edge are missing. One of the shells has a small hole. The stones are in good shape and well set.
The gold of the pin has been nitric acid tested and is guaranteed 14k.
This pin is approximately 2 3/4 inches long.
This piece weighs 12.1 grams.
