Presented is a fantastic pair of Georgian English sterling silver sauce boats or tureens. These pieces date to 1781 and were made by Daniel Smith & Robert Sharp. The boats are very sturdy and well constructed, cast from very thick heavy silver. The rim and the base have a beaded design. Each boat has two handles, which join to the rim at the top with an acanthus leaf decoration. The boats are engraved with a nice armorial crest. Both pieces have a presentation inscription around the underside of the base, reading "The gift of Mrs. Newton ob. 11, Sept 1757."

Each piece is hallmarked on the side of the base with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter f for 1781, and the maker's mark for Daniel Smith & Robert Sharp.

The sauce boats are in great condition. There are no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

Each boat is about 5 inches tall and measures about 8 3/4 inches from handle to handle.

The total weight for both sauce boats is 933 grams or 32.7 regular ounces (a little over two pounds!).
