Nice 18th Century French Porcelain/Pottery Chinoiserie Urn
Presented is a fine old French pottery/porcelain and metal covered urn, dating
to the 18th century. The urn is done in a Chinese export porcelain inspired
design, with two scenes of a rooster and three classically Chinese garbed
figures. The lid of the urn has a finial in the form of a peach or other fruit
on a leafy branch. The mouth of the urn has a finely engraved silverplate rim,
while the foot is done in a vertically fluted or ribbed design. The decoration
is all quite colorful and well done, painted by hand.
The interior has an old paper label, itself likely antique, reading 'drawing
room on cabinet' marking this piece's place in someone's collection in days gone
This piece is in great overall condition. There is an old crack/repair
visible in the final photo, but the urn is still quite sound overall,
particularly due to the metal mounts. The glaze has some crazing. There are no
other repairs or damages.
The urn stands about 6 7/8 inches tall and measures about 3 ½ inches in
