Presented is a charming little antique Dutch silver sugar sifter spoon, dated 1901. The bowl of the spoon is done in a wide oval form, pierced with classical openwork decoration to allow it to serve as a sifter. The spoon has a short of scrollwork design with a large and nicely detailed ship forming the handle. The spoon is made from Dutch first standard silver which has a purity 934, higher than sterling silver which is a standard of 925 purity.

The bowl of the spoon is stamped with the Dutch first standard hallmark guaranteeing at least 934 purity silver, with the Dutch key shaped export mark nearby. On the opposite side of the bowl is a date letter of R for 1901. On the bottom of the ship finial is the Dutch Minerva head tax mark. On the lower edge of the bowl of the spoon is an illegible maker's mark and another partial mark.

This piece is in excellent condition. The details of the designs are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

This piece measures about 5 1/2 inches long. The spoon weighs 53.4 grams. -jm
