Presented is an antique yellow gold and gold quartz specimen stick pin made in America during circa the 1850s-1870s. The decorative top is a round 14 karat yellow gold mounting that is bezel set with a real piece of "gold quartz," one of the rarest forms of naturally occurring gold on Earth, gold fused with white quartz. First found in California in 1850, it was also found in Alaska c1880 and has been mined in Canada and Australia as well, but California is still the most likely source. This piece comes with a stopper for security.
The head of the stick pin is 14 karat gold, nitric acid tested and guaranteed. The shaft tests as 10 karat gold, not uncommon in stick pins.
This piece is in great condition. The back has an old monogram of the letter H.
Diameter of top: 9 millimeters.
Weight without the stopper: 1.1 grams. With the stopper, 1.5 grams.
