Great Set 5 Whiting Sterling Silver Japanese AKA New Japanese Teaspoons S Mono
Regular price
$314.00
Presented is a superb set of 5 antique Whiting sterling silver teaspoons. These spoons are made in the beautiful Japanese or New Japanese pattern, which began production in 1874. This pattern features richly detailed Japanese inspired decoration in the form of birds, bamboo leaves and other plants on the handles, with a bamboo motif to the shaft and around the edges. The appearance is quite similar to Tiffany's Audubon pattern as well as John Wendt's Bird pattern of 1865, all part of a wonderful Japonesque movement in art and design. These spoons have a monogram of S to the reverse of the handles.
Each spoon is stamped with the Whiting maker's mark as well as sterling and the patent date of 1874.
This set is in excellent condition. The details of the pattern are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
Each spoon is about 6 inches long.
The total weight for the set is 100.9 grams or 3.6 regular ounces. -jm
