Gorgeous Pair late 1800s Meissen Cobalt Blue Gilt Tall Candlesticks
Regular price
$820.00
Presented is a handsome pair of antique Meissen porcelain candlesticks, dating to circa 1850-1875. The candlesticks are a rich cobalt blue and white, with lavish gilt scroll and acanthus decoration. The candlesticks have attached wax drips/bobeches, and prominent, stable bases. The candlesticks are very well constructed, with old bolt construction all the way through the center and visible on the underside of the base, exactly as you'd want to see in a piece of this age.
The candlesticks are in excellent overall condition. One candlestick has a small chip to the underside of the bobeche, with a small hairline (about ¼ of an inch) extending inward from it. The chip is not very visible from the top. There is some wear to the gilding but nothing excessive. There are no other chips, no other cracks, no breaks and no repairs.
Each candlestick is igned on the underside with the Meissen crossed swords in underglaze blue, as well as an incised mark of B170.
Each candlestick stands about 11 ½ inches tall and measures about 5 1/2 inches at the base. -jm
