Fantastic Antique German Hanau 800 Silver Genre Courting Scene Creamer
Regular price
$324.00
Presented is a lovely antique German 800 purity silver creamer, dating to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The creamer is beautifully hand chased with detailed genre scenes in scroll-bordered reserves on either side, with scrollwork, diaperwork, and roses surrounding. One side shows two ladies in elegant gowns, one holding a fan and the other playing a mandolin, while the other side depicts a courting couple leaning their heads together. The creamer stands on four griffin or eagle claw form feet, with little sprays of flowers where the feet join the body, all nicely detailed and textured. The handle continues the motif of roses and other flowers with trailing leaves, as well as a blank cartouche, never monogrammed. The front of the creamer, beneath the spout, has a cartouche in the same scroll-enclosed style, which is likewise blank.
This piece is stamped on the underside with Germany and two Hanau style pseudo hallmarks. The silver is 800 purity, nitric acid tested and guaranteed.
This piece is in excellent overall condition. There are a couple of dings to the cartouche on the front beneath the spout, but these don't appear to be the result of a monogram removal and the silver is not thinned. There are no splits, no leaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The creamer stands about 3 1/4 inches tall at the handle and measures about 4 3/4 inches from handle to spout.
This piece weighs 150 grams or 5.3 regular ounces. -jm
