Presented is a fantastic quality Portuguese silver tray, quite large and made from .958 purity silver, from between 1818-1853, more probably 1843-1853. This purity level of silver is actually higher than sterling silver, which is .925, so this is a piece made from very high quality materials. The piece is raised up on three legs, and has an openwork rim in an attractive design. The interior is beautifully hand-engraved with a pattern of leaves and grapes. This is a truly fabulous piece of silver work, and would be an exceptional addition to any home or collection.
The underside of the tray has the p mark for Oporto, but we are unable to determine if it is the mark used between 1818-1836, 1836-1843, or 1843-1853, as it contains elements of all three, but we estimate that it is the later date range. The zig-zag line is the mark where the assay office took a sample of silver in order to test its purity.
This piece is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The tray stands 2 approximately inches tall and is approximately 12 inches in diameter.
The tray weighs 955 grams.
