Exquisite Pair 18k Gold Natural Hexagonal Sapphire Slice ~8.75ct Iolite Earrings

Presented is a gorgeous pair of 18 karat gold, sapphire, and iolite earrings, almost certainly by jewelry designer Paula Crevoshay. Each earring is set with a huge slice of hexagonal growth dichroic sapphire as a central focus, with oval cut iolite stones above, below, and to each side. Each of the sapphire slices measure about 20 by 19 millimeters, and are left in their naturally occurring shapes as cross sections of a hexagonal sapphire crystal; the stones are both distinct individuals, but still match nicely. The growth lines of the stones form almost a rayed star design, which is very striking. Each of the iolite stones measures approximately 7 by 5.5 millimeters, or about 1.18ct each. The removable drops or dangles at the bottom of each earring are also each set with an oval faceted iolite, measuring about 9 by 7 millimeters, or about 2 carats each. The total iolite weight for the pair is about 8.75ct. The stones are exceptional quality, easily on par with the work of Paula Crevoshay, beautifully cut and polished and exquisite in terms of color. All of the stones are real, mined from the ground stones, verified by our gemologist. These earrings are made in an antiquities inspired style, with applied granulated decoration
against gold with a rich textured finish, reminiscent of Etruscan Revival pieces but with uncharacteristically bold choices of gem. The earrings have omega style backs with posts for wear with pierced ears. The earrings can be worn with or without the dangle/drop at the bottom.
These earrings were acquired from an estate along with several other fine pieces of Paula Crevoshay's work, many of which came to us with their original receipts from EF Watermelon in Old Lyme, Connecticut, the brainchild gallery of two of the founding members of the American Gem Trade Association, which both gave a platform to jewelry artists like Paula Crevoshay and others of similar renown and supplied them with unique and high end gemstones in their capacity as dealers in fine gems. EF Watermelon showcased and sold her work directly. This particular pair of earrings is not signed Paula Crevoshay that we can find, but the style matches exactly with many other pieces of her work from the same estate, including another pair of earrings with a gemstone cross section design, and another pair with the loop at the back to attach a dangle element, and many pieces with the two textures of gold and the granulated beadwork design elements. We strongly believe this to be her work.
The earrings are in pristine condition. The stones are all well set and intact, with no chips. The clipbacks function well and have a good strong spring mechanism. No breaks and no repairs.
Each earring is stamped and guaranteed 18k.
Each earring measures about 2 3/8 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide, or about 1 3/4 inches long without the drops. The total weight for the pair is 40.6 grams.
