Exquisite 1930 Dutch Silver Roemer Rummer Engraved Cup Goblet

Presented is a very interesting Dutch 833 silver roemer/rummer style cup or goblet, dated 1930. The lower portion of the cup features the classic raised designs (called “prunts”) seen on glass and silver roemer cups from the Netherlands and Rhineland area starting in the 15th century, rendered here in an appealing shield-like boss shape. These circular designs are done against an intricate almost scale-like texture, contrasting with the cup's basin. The exterior of the cup's basin is beautifully hand engraved with floral and foliate decoration, which is likewise nicely detailed and well executed. A very handsome piece.

The cup is stamped on the exterior of the rim with the Dutch lion passant guaranteeing 833 purity silver. The underside is stamped with the Dutch Minerva head duty mark for the city of Amsterdam, a maker's mark for Zaanlandse Zilversmederijen, and the side is stamped with the date letter V for 1930.

This piece is in excellent overall condition. The details of the designs are nice and crisp. There is one ding to the side which is quite hard to notice. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

The cup stands about 3 5/8 inches tall and measures about 3 1/8 inches in diameter at the rim.

The cup weighs 113.3 grams or 4 regular ounces. -jm
