Presented is a nice Chinese brass matchbox holder topped with carved soapstone, or talc. The soapstone is nicely carved with an openwork design of flowers and leaves. The brass box is raised up on four bun feet and engraved with flowers and leaves on a finely textured background. The matchbox holder was probably made around the 1910s to the 1930s.
The matchbox holder is marked Made in China on the underside.
The condition is excellent. It should not be too difficult to find a matchbox holder to fit inside the case. The soapstone is in fabulous shape. There are no chips, no cracks, no dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
The matchbox holder measures 1 5/8 inches by 2 3/8 inches and 1 inch tall.
