c1900 Art Nouveau 10k Gold Opal Pearl Lavaliere Pendant w 14k Chain Necklace
Presented is an elegant antique gold, pearl and opal lavaliere style necklace.
This necklace dates to circa 1895-1915 and is likely of American make. The style
of the pendant is classic Art Nouveau, with an organic, sinuous openwork design.
The pendant is set with an oval cabochon of black opal, very vibrant and full of
flashes of green and blue fire. This opal is not a doublet or triplet stone, it
is all opal. Hanging from the bottom is a real freshwater pearl drop in an
interesting almost floral shape, on a little gold stem. The overall style of the
pendant is very reminiscent of the Art Nouveau jewelry by Murrle Bennet, but
unfortunately the piece is not signed. The pendant is on a 14 karat gold chain
made up of flat round links, with a springring style clasp.
no chips or cracks. The chain has no kinks or breaks. The clasp functions well.
The chain is stamped and guaranteed 14k. The pendant is not stamped or
hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 10
The pendant is about 2 inches long, while the chain is about 18 ½ inches
The total weight is 6.9 grams, for both the pendant and chain together. The
pendant alone weighs 2.4 grams, while the chain weighs 4.5 grams.
