c1870s-1880s Stunning Bohemian Victorian Garnet Bangle Bracelet
Presented is a beautiful Victorian Bohemian garnet bangle bracelet, dating to
around the 1870s-1880s. The bracelet is set over its entire surface with
gorgeous rich red garnets, graduated in size from smaller at the underside to
largest at the top, where it will be most visible on the wrist. The garnets are
round cut with a lot of surface area on the top of each stone, so they catch the
light and flash beautifully. The bracelet is hinged and has a tongue insert
style clasp, with an attached safety chain. The clasp is on the side of the
bracelet, so it will be on the side of the wrist, not the bottom. The bracelet
itself is made from a pinchbeck type material, as is typical of Bohemian garnet
jewelry from this time period.
the safety chain is in good shape. Four of the larger garnet stones have been
replaced, but this is not very noticeable with normal wear, only with close,
careful inspection. Three of these replacements are near the clasp. A few of the
tiny garnets are missing from their settings, and a couple have also been
replaced, but these stones were small in the first place and their loss is hard
to notice. There is a little glue around some of the replacements, though this
could be cleaned up.
The bracelet has an interior circumference of about 6 1/2 inches, so it will
fit a wrist of about that size or smaller. The safety chain does not unhook, so
the bracelet will have to slide over the hand to be worn, but the chain is long
enough that the bracelet opens quite wide.
This piece weighs 17.3 grams.
